Construction of the A32 Shannaragh Road Realignment scheme

Construction of the A32 Shannaragh Road Realignment scheme
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy announced the award of a contract for construction of the A32 Shannaragh Road Realignment scheme, on the A32 between Omagh and Enniskillen.

The Minister said construction work on the £7.3 million road scheme will start on 5 March 2012. “This extremely worthwhile scheme has been long awaited by all A32 road users. This scheme, together with the ongoing works at A32 Drumskinny, will improve journey times, enhance overtaking opportunities and improve road safety along the route.

“Construction of these schemes is also timely in that they will also improve access to and from the new acute hospital in Enniskillen, currently under construction.”

The Minister added: “A £4.3 million contract for construction of the new carriageway has been awarded to a joint venture between Whitemountain Quarries Ltd and Coffey Construction Ltd. Work is expected to be completed by March 2013.”

The scheme comprises of 2.2 km of new single carriageway extending from the A32 Clanabogan Road / B4 Drumlish Road Junction to the A32 Clanabogan Road / Shannaragh Road Junction just north of Dromore. The works will include the replacement of the existing Shannaragh bridge over the Owenreagh River and for the realignment of some local roads to improve access to and from the A32.

While much of the early construction work will be away from the existing carriageway, some traffic disruption is inevitable at a later stage and Roads Service would appeal for the cooperation of motorists in this regard.
