Transport Planning - Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Road Transport

A key objective of the review of the Regional Transportation Strategy is to ensure more sustainable transport arrangements which provide for a proper balance between the needs of people, business and the environment.  To inform the review in this regard, the Department has taken forward work to establish the greenhouse gas emissions of road transport arrangements in the North of Ireland, with a view to identifying and costing an appropriate policy and strategy response.

The first stage of that work has now been completed, and a report prepared setting out the 1990 baseline and 2007 position on greenhouse gas emissions from road transport here.  The paper sets out the 1990 baseline and 2007 position on greenhouse emissions from transport and highlights a number of key trends impacting on transport emissions.
