A55 Knock Road
Description
Widening of 1.3km of existing single carriageway between Glen Road and Kings Road junctions, providing two lanes in each direction, together with right turning facilities.
Scheme Status
Public Inquiry was held on 8 November 2010.
The scheme is currently in Roads Service‘s preparation pool for projects that will be taken forward to construction stage, usually within the next five years.
The statutory orders comprising the environmental statement, direction order and notice of intention to make a vesting order were published in November 2009. The orders are based on the preferred option which was chosen following public consultation in June 2006 and completion of the stage 1 and stage 2 scheme assessment reports.
Next Steps
The inspectors’ report has been received and is currently under consideration. In his report the inspector recommended that further detailed consideration be given to a number of issues, some of which will require further traffic surveys that can only be carried out in autumn of this year.
On completion of the above work and as part of the next stage of taking forward this road scheme, Roads Service plans to release its response to the Inspector’s recommendations and confirm its design proposals by way of a Departmental Statement. The inspectors report will also be made available to the public at the same time.
The inspectors recommendations and Departmental statement will both be published around spring 2012 on this website and will be copied to all objectors and any other person who appeared or was represented at the inquiry.
Subject to the availability of finance the scheme would then proceed to procurement. The construction stage of the works is likely to take up to 18 months to complete. The DRD Investment Delivery Plan for Roads indicates an estimated completion date between 2013/18.
