Scheme signboard

Overall length:2.4 kilometres
Overtaking Length:                        1.9 kilometres

Cost:£0.85 million
Contract:Traditional Consultant Design Contractor Build
Contractor:B Mullan and Sons

The climbing lane widened the A37 Dunhill Road 9 kilometres west of Coleraine to create a safe overtaking opportunity for west bound traffic. The online improvement asymmetrically widened the existing road to 12 metres and is marked as two lanes (3.2 metre wide nearside lane and 3.4 metre wide overtaking lane) uphill towards Limavady and one lane (3.4 metres wide) downhill towards Coleraine, with opposing traffic streams separated by a double white line system. The running carriageway is flanked either side by 1 metre wide edge strips. Ghost islands were included to promote safe right turns into housing and caravan car park.
