The WS 2+1 wide single carriageway widened the A26 Frosses Road 9 kilometres southeast Ballymoney to create a safe overtaking opportunity for northwest bound traffic. The online improvement asymmetrically widened the existing road to 12 metres and is marked as two lanes (3.2 metre wide nearside lane and 3.4 metre wide overtaking lane) towards Ballymoney and one lane (3.4 metres wide) towards Ballymena, with opposing traffic streams separated by a double white line system. The running carriageway is flanked either side by 1 metre wide edge strips. Ghost islands were included to promote safe right turns into several farmyards. The Dunloy simple crossroads was replaced with a single lane dualling layout (see below) to promote safe crossing for the substantial volume of agricultural traffic crossing over the mainline. Existing mainline sharp crest curves at either end of the scheme were lowered to improve forward sight distance.
