A4 - A5 Improvements Dungannon to Ballygawley
The A4 and A5 are two of the five Key Transport Corridors identified in the Regional Development Strategy and the Regional Transportation Strategy
. The Department intends to carry out improvement works via two schemes:
- A4 Dungannon to Ballygawley; and
- A4 / A5 Improvements (A4 Annaghilla & A5 Tullyvar)
This improvement work involves:
- realignment and upgrading to Dual Carriageway of the A4 between Dungannon and Ballygawley;
- upgrading the existing junctions of the A4 and A5 in the vicinity of the Ballygawley Roundabout;
- partial realignment of the A4 at Annaghilla; and
- partial realignment of the A5 at Tullyvar together with a climbing lane on the A5 southwards from Ballygawley.
The Department has started to consider how these improvements can be delivered and have already sought public comment through several information days in April 2004. An information leaflet (361 Kb) is also available and it includes the proposed programme for delivering these road improvements:
- Spring 2004 - select preferred route corridor;
- Late Spring 2004 - identification of route options;
- Summer 2004 to 2005 - prepare environmental statements;
- Spring 2005 to Summer 2006 - publish environmental statements;
- Autumn 2005 to Autumn 2006 - vesting of land; and
- 2007 - construction.
This work will be delivered using a Public Private Partnership (PPP) known as Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO). This involves a private sector consortium designing, constructing and financing the road improvements as well as subsequently maintaining the road for the next 30 years.
