Review of the Regional Development Strategy

In June 2008 Conor Murphy informed the Assembly that he would undertake a major review of the Regional Development Strategy to ensure that it remained fit for purpose and capable of supporting the Executive’s Programme for Government. As part of the Review we have been collecting and analysing baseline information.

Two pieces of research were commissioned to inform debate: a Business Land Needs Study and a Key Settlements Study . (3.46MB)

We have met with all Government Departments to ensure that there is a common understanding of the purpose of the Strategy, an Inter Departmental Steering Group of senior officials meets to consider and advise on the way ahead. An External Working Group made up of representatives from the voluntary sector, Councils, trade unions, academics, the business community and environmental groups provides important advice on particular issues.

We held 11 pre-consultation workshops that were publicly advertised. The information we collected will be important as we prepare a draft strategy for public consultation. Reports of Workshops are available on this website.

Prior to going out to public consultation on the Regional Development Strategy we are keen to get ideas from children and young people on what a successful Northern Ireland might look like in 2035. We are doing this by inviting them to submit a piece of artwork to represent their views. The deadline for application is Friday 28 August. Further details are available at the attached link.
