Rapid Transit

Introduction
The Belfast Rapid Transit (BRT) system will bring a reliable and modern public transport service to Belfast. This new dynamic transportation system will play a key role in linking communities and transforming neighbourhoods. The pilot BRT network will allow for cross city services directly linking communities in the east and west of the city. BRT will help regenerate socially deprived areas in both East and West Belfast providing quick and efficient access to jobs, health, education and leisure. It will reflect Belfast as a growing metropolitan area, going forward into the 21st century.
- Services will be reliable, efficient, high frequency and with optimum priority in rapid transit bus lanes and at junctions.
- Features of the system will include real-time information, off-board ticketing, level boarding access, audio-visual on-board displays, and wifi.
- The service will be designed to be customer friendly with a focus on quality.
The type of bus-based rapid transit system planned for Belfast operates in cities throughout the world, including Las Vegas, Adelaide, Nantes and Amsterdam
