Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides greater access to recorded information held by public authorities, subject to certain exemptions, and aims to develop a culture of openness and accountability.
You can find out more about the Act by clicking on the links on the right-hand side under ‘more information...’.
An important feature of the Act is the requirement for public authorities to produce a publication scheme setting out what information they publish as a matter of course, how it will be published, and whether there is a charge. The Department for Regional Development has adopted the Information Commissioner’s Office’s model publication scheme for central Government departments. Information available through the publication scheme can be found throughout the Department’s website.
