Equality Agenda - European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages
European Charter
On 2nd March 2000, the UK Government signed up to the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. This Charter is an international convention designed to protect and promote regional and minority languages. The Department now has an obligation to meet commitments made in the Charter Guidance issued, in respect of Irish and Ulster Scots.
In order to show how the Department fulfils its commitments under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages it has produced two guides
Codes of Courtesy for Irish - July 2011 (52 KB)
Codes of Courtesy for Ulster Scots - July 2011 (56KB)
Should you wish to conduct business with the Department using Irish or Ulster Scots, a voicemail system is in operation on 028 90515252 for Irish and 028 90515251 for Ulster Scots.
