Equality Impact

The BMTP has been subject to a full Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) in accordance with the DRD’s Equality Scheme, and the requirements of Section 75 of the 1998 Northern Ireland Act. This systematic analysis is designed to determine whether the Plan would have an adverse impact on any groups or individuals and include consideration of alternative or mitigating measures, where appropriate.

The EQIA has assessed the potential impacts of the proposals included in the BMTP, according to the following nine categories:

  • Persons of different religious belief;
  • Persons of different political opinion;
  • Persons of different race;
  • Persons of different age;
  • Persons of different martial status;
  • Persons of different sexual orientation;
  • Men and women generally;
  • Persons with a disability and person without; and
  • Persons with dependents and persons without.

The conclusions of the EQIA analysis have been subject to a formal consultation process, undertaken in Spring 2004. The EQIA has now been reconsidered and finalised in light of the responses to the consultation. The EQIA analysis and subsequent consultation has concluded that the implementation of the proposals contained within the BMTP would provide benefits across all equality categories outlined above.
