Airports
Ports and Public Transport Division contributes to the development of air transport policy at UK national level. By doing so it ensures that, while responsibility for aviation matters remains a reserved function of the Department for Transport in London - www.dft.gov.uk
- the interests of Northern Irelands air travellers are taken into account in the decision making process. The Section also keeps the regulatory framework in which Northern Ireland's airports operate under review.
Important work areas include the following:
- Implementing aviation policy in Northern Ireland following the publication of the Department for Transport White Paper The Future of Air Transport
published in December 2004 - The development of new routes from Northern Irelands airports;
- Lead responsibility for noise monitoring issues at Northern Ireland airports. The report A Good Practice Guide to the Assessment and Management of Aircraft Noise Disturbance around Northern Ireland Airports was published in July 2003.
