Conor Murphy was appointed Minister for Regional Development (DRD) on 8 May 2007.

Education:

He was educated at St. Colmans College and studied at both University of Ulster and Queens University Belfast.

Career History:

Conor first entered politics in 1989 as a member of Newry and Mourne District Council.  Elected as Assembly member for Newry/Armagh in 1998 Conor served as Party Spokesperson on Equality, was Party Whip and Chair of the Procedures Committee and Deputy Chair of the Public Accounts Committee.

He was re-elected to the Assembly in 2003 and elected as MP for Newry/Armagh in 2005. Conor is a senior member of the Sinn Féin negotiating team.

Since his successful re-election to the Assembly in March 2007 Conor was nominated by Sinn Féin to the executive ministerial portfolio of Regional Development.

Outside day-to-day politics Conor enjoys, sports, reading and hill walking.
